Citizenship and Immigration Canada uses a point system to assess the eligibility of people who want to immigrate to Canada as skilled workers.

Applicants must obtain at least 67 points to qualify.

Points are awarded based on 6 factors:

  1. Education (maximum 25 points)
  2. Language ability in English and French (maximum 24 points)
  3. Work experience (maximum 21 points)
  4. Age (maximum 10 points)
  5. Arranged employment (maximum 10 points)
  6. Adaptability (Maximum 10 points)

Admissibility

People who obtain at least 67 points then need to meet certain admissibility criteria:

Medical Inadmissibility:

Applicants and their immediate and accompanying family members will have to take a medical examination before coming to Canada.

Only a designated medical practitioner can conduct the medical examinations. The examinations are only valid for 12 months.

Criminal/Security Inadmissibility:

Each applicant over the age of 18 must provide police clearances for all countries and states in which he or she has resided for more than 6 months.

If you have criminal convictions or charges pending, contact us to find out whether you are criminally inadmissible.

Settlement Funds:

Applicants must prove they have sufficient funds in their possession prior to immigrating to Canada.

You do not have to show that you have these funds if you have arranged employment in Canada.
